Bye bye skin problems: There soon might be a vaccine to prevent acne

Sounds magical!

Bye, bye Clearasil, lemon juice, toothpaste and all of the other more or less useless home remedies to banish acne as scientists of the University of California San Diego might just have invented a vaccine that could eliminate all of our pimple problems once and for all

As usually with science, the details behind how the vaccine actually works are pretty technical, but lead researcher Eric C. Huang still gives it a try:

‘Acne is caused, in part, by P. acnes bacteria that are with you your whole life — and we couldn’t create a vaccine for the bacteria because, in some ways, P. acnes are good for you. But we found an antibody to a toxic protein that P. acnes bacteria secrete on skin — the protein is associated with the inflammation that leads to acne.’

Now if you’re already on your way to your doc of trust, for that magical vaccine, just head back home as the study is still in its early stages, and the product itself will only hit shelves in the next two years.
