10 Celebrity Acne Tricks That Actually Work

  • 1. Demi Lovato: Demi’s aesthetician Renee Rouleau suggests using a product with glycolic acid to help fade discoloration left behind by spots.

  • 2. Cameron Diaz told Cosmopolitan: “Looking back, I realise that I hadn’t needed those prescription drugs, those vials of potions and creams. [I] hadn’t needed to be angry at my skin or feel bad about myself. I had just needed to LISTEN TO MY BODY. … acne was my body’s alarm system, it was [my] way of telling me [to stop eating fast food]."

  • 3. Rihanna: Ri-Ri loves to party, we all love her for it. But all those dranks can really take a toll on your skin. She told Cosmo: "When I feel like my skin has had it, I cut out all alcohol and overdo the water. And lipstick is essential—it draws attention away from any flaws."

  • 4. Emma Stone: Emma said "For the most part, I use Cetaphil, the bar soap, and then these pads that I get from the dermatologist, and then Elta lotion. Ideally, I'd like to just use single-note products. Usually, I use tea tree oil. I can't go too crazy, or I'll get a rash. My skin is really sensitive."

  • 5: Gisele Bündchen: When one of the world’s most famous supermodels gives you skin tips, you listen. She says: “When I was a teenager, I had pimples — oh, God, every time someone looked at my face I thought they were looking at my pimples. I put mud on my face to dry them out, and it worked.”

  • 6. Kim Kardashian: Kimmy’s fave dermatologist Dr Lancer says it’s important to know what kind of acne you have before treating it. He says: “Acne can take on many different forms, each with a different treatment course. For example, typical acne vulgaris (this involves clogged pores, blackheads and whiteheads) is best treated with exfoliation, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide. More severe acne, which involves the appearance of cysts or nodules, is almost never treatable with topical ingredients and must be addressed with medication or antibiotics.”

  • 7. Victoria Beckham: She tells THE EDIT: “I used to have really problematic skin. And [Dr. Lancer] said to me, ‘You have to eat salmon every single day.’ I said, ‘Really, every day?’ And he said, ‘Yes; breakfast, lunch or dinner, you have to eat it every single day.'” Apparently the fish has age-proofing dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) and skin-healing omega-3s in the pink fish. Who knew?

  • 8. Julianne Hough: The actress and dancer has a nifty trick to calm those angry flare-ups we all have. She says: "If I feel a big pimple coming on, I like to get a really cold washcloth, or even an ice cube, and kind of massage the area a little bit. I feel like that takes the swelling down at least. I don't want to pop it because then it will be too hard to cover with makeup the next day.”

  • 9. Scarlett Johansson: Scar-Jo makes sure the tools that she uses to touch her face are super clean. “I have the same breakouts as everybody else," she told Elle. "I never go to bed with makeup on, even if I come home at 4 a.m. And I clean my makeup brushes once a week. People don't realize how dirty their sponges and stuff are! Bacteria — that's what makes you break out."

  • 10. Kendall Jenner: Kendall has concocted her own DIY acne treatment from at-home products. She combines a teaspoon of baking soda, half a teaspoon of lemon juice, and a teaspoon of honey, which is stirred up and then used as a spot treatment to ‘dry out’ the pimples.
