Former frontman Liam Gallagher insists the group - who split up last August after tensions between the singer and his guitarist brother Noel Gallagher became unbearable - are unlikely to ever get back together.

He said: "The only reason why Oasis will come back is when we're f***ing skint. I'm far from skint as you can tell - and I won't be skint for a long, long f***ing time. Believe me, it ain't gonna be happening."

The rocker - who has formed new band Beady Eye with former Oasis bandmates Gem Archer, Chris Sharrock and Andy Bell - went on to claim his new project's debut album would be "the best record you'll hear for the next 50 years."

He told Sky News: "We have this tune and it was a bit Rolling Stones-y, and I didn't like it. It was slow and boring. So we just got on a piano and f**k it up, Jerry Lee Lewis style, and stuck a John Lennon vocal on the top. It's good."

The heavy metal group's vocalist Corey Taylor paid tribute to his late bandmate - who was found dead in a hotel room in Iowa in May - at last night's (29.07.10) Relentless Energy Drink Kerrang! Awards.

Accepting the award for Services To Metal on the rocker's behalf, Corey - who also co-presented the show alongside Anthrax's Scott Ian - said: "People don't realise this, but he wrote almost all the music for Slipknot - he deserves way more credit for that than he's ever been given. He was the heart and soul of the band and the best dude I've ever known."

An autopsy following the star's shock death earlier this year revealed he died from an accidental overdose of what is believed to be painkillers morphine and fentanyl.

Corey told BANG Showbiz: "Every day is a constant reminder but this is such a fitting tribute and a true recognition of the contribution he made to music and the world in general. I couldn't be more proud.

"He wrote well over half the music for the band and I really don't think Joey Jordison could have been as good without him.

"Paul wrote some of the heavier rifts and some of the most beautiful, melodic rifts. Once we got him into that realm it really started opening him up and he wrote so many great songs for us.

"It just feels weird without him, but it was an honour to be in a band with him. I miss him every day."

Awards last night (29.07.10).

The Welsh metal band's guitarist Mike Lewis admitted the group were "humbled" after winning the Classic Songwriter accolade and joked they may as well split up now they've reached the "pinnacle" of their careers.

He told BANG Showbiz: "It's a cool award to win so we feel very humbled and very honoured. Now we're going to split up! We've won this so we've reached the pinnacle of our careers. It's what we've been waiting for our whole careers.

"But seriously we're just going to carry on doing what we're doing. Onwards and upwards!"

Despite the win, Mike insisted he and his Lostprophets bandmates weren't going to be partying hard to celebrate.

He said: "We're jet-lagged out of our a***s so it's not going to be a massive one."

However, frontman Ian Watkins seemed to have other ideas.

He revealed: "I'll be celebrating in a pretty jovial manner - a bit dangerous, but still within health and safety guidelines. Dancing on the tables, setting fire to things, you know the score. I'd like to win an Oscar now."

Biffy Clyro took home the Best Video trophy for the promo for 'The Captain'.

Among the other winners were Bullet For My Valentine - who picked up two gongs, for Best Live Band and Best British Band - and metal group Motley Crue, who were presented with the Kerrang! Hall Of Fame Award.

The ceremony took place at London's The Brewery venue and was hosted by Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor and Scott Ian from Anthrax.

Former Black Sabbath singer Ronnie James Dio - who died in May - was posthumously given The Kerrang! Icon Award.

Fans of the music legend are being asked to submit birthday wishes, musical performances and personal thoughts on the late star's legacy, which will join his post-Beatles recordings and be sealed until October 9 2040 - what would have been John's 100th birthday.

The musician's widow Yoko Ono is backing the project.

She said: "I am delighted to support this effort to help share John's music and messages of peace and love with the children of today and tomorrow.

"I know that John's work, life and dreams will help inspire them to bring a better world for everyone. Children power!"

The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Museum in Ohio will host the time capsule dedication ceremony on October 8, the day before the iconic star - who was shot dead in 1980 - would have turned 70.

Meanwhile, John's son Julian - whose mother is the musician's first wife Cynthia Powell - will unveil an 18ft peace monument in the singer's memory in Chavasse Park in the 'Imagine' singer's hometown of Liverpool, North West England, on his birthday (09.10.10).

The sculpture is being created by California's Global Peace Initiative, which hopes to place peace monuments on every continent and will be the statue for Europe.

Jerry Goldman, managing director of The Beatles Story which is behind the plan, said: "The decision on the site was between ourselves and suggestions from the planners.

"We were looking for somewhere which was prominent and where people could congregate and lay flowers and tributes, but which could be carefully maintained and secure and cared for."

The unveiling of the statue will mark the start of a two-month celebration of the singer's life in the city.

The veteran rocker invited four-year-old Alistair - his child with wife Penny Lancaster - on to the stage at London's O2 arena to say "happy birthday" to his grandmother, before urging fans to buy a charity t-shirt designed by the youngster.

Earlier, the 65-year-old star had paid tribute to his late father by dedicating 'I Was Only Joking' to him.

Introducing the track, he said: "This was always my dad's favourite, just because it has the word 'dad' in the lyrics."

He then performed the song, which was accompanied by a montage of photographs of Rod and his father.

Despite a career spanning five decades, Rod appeared humbled by the reception he received from the huge crowd, thanking them throughout the performance.

At one stage, he admitted: "Even though I've been doing this for years, sometimes I get this feeling like, 'Oh everybody's looking at me' and that just happened."

Rod's two-hour set crammed in fan favourites including 'Do You Think I'm Sexy?' 'Some Guys Have All The Luck', 'First Cut Is The Deepest, 'Hot Legs' - during which the rocker kicked footballs into the crowd - and finished with a rousing rendition of 'Maggie May', which had all of the crowd on their feet.

The singer and his band then returned for a two-song encore of 'Sailing' and 'Baby Jane'.

The band's founder and bassist has admitted he was at his "lowest ebb" when the singer left the legendary heavy metal group to pursue a solo career, but soon changed his mind.

He said: "I was a bit down when Bruce left. I was going through a divorce, probably at my lowest ebb ever, and for a couple of hours I thought about finishing Iron Maiden. Then I thought, 'What are you doing? Just get out there and bloody do it'."

Bruce - who rejoined the band in 1999 - revealed although people have compared the rockers' sound to that of punk, the entire group actually "hated" it.

He explained: "Punk was only important in that we hated it and didn't want anything to do with it. Punk came out at the time we were doing pub gigs and it was very difficult for us to get work because we didn't look right. We were around before punk, from '75, and then, when punk began to really happen in '77, people started making those comparisons that really annoyed us because we didn't want them."

Iron Maiden are set to release their new album 'The Final Frontier' next month and Bruce, 51, hopes it will lead to a new generation of fans for the band.

He added to the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "What's good is that, when each new generation discovers the band, it's usually on the cusp of a new album. Then they work their way through the older albums."

The other members of the chart-topping girl band - Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh and Cheryl Cole - haven't been in contact with Nadine in months as she works on her debut solo LP and are now prepared to get back together without her following their hiatus.

An insider said: "It's been a painful decision for Sarah, Nicola, Kimberley and Cheryl but they have decided that the future of Girls Aloud lies without Nadine. They've all been on a rollercoaster ride since 2002 and have just grown apart from Nadine."

Last month, Nicola admitted none of the girls had spoken to Nadine - who is currently in Los Angeles finishing off her debut solo single - since the band supported Coldplay in London last September, but she denied rumours of a feud.

The group are said to be looking forward to returning and can't wait to get to work on some new music following their self-imposed break so each member could pursue their own individual projects.

The source added to Britain's The Sun newspaper: "The four remaining girls want to return on their own terms - and avoiding any squabbles is a high priority. That's why they have decided to go on without Nadine."

"We've got a really beautiful location. And we'll be on a boat. It's going to be directed by Sophie Muller. And then I'm going to perform with Armin at the Amnesia club, where he has a residency.

Discussing upcoming album 'Straight to the Heart', Sophie revealed the LP is now finished ahead of its release in the autumn.

The indie rockers - who are set to headline at this summer's Reading and Leeds festivals - are happy to record and release their tracks digitally, but they also like to produce an "artefact" by making sure they create a traditional vinyl copy.

Frontman Win Butler explained: "I still think this band, on every level, is still trying to make things as good as we can and as artistic as we can. I think that it's more important than ever to follow through on the little details, even if it's only us who care about it."

Drummer Jeremy Gara added to NME magazine: "It makes me feel happy to know that, at the end of a year and a half of recording, there is a stack of vinyl, just that it exists physically. MP3s are totally fine, but we didn't spend a year and a half recording MP3s. We recorded this artefact."

Meanwhile, the group admit their third album 'The Suburbs' - which is scheduled for release in August - is neither an ode to their suburban childhoods, nor a criticism of their youths.

Win said: "The album is neither a love letter to nor an indictment of the suburbs - it's a letter from the suburbs."

The British band - whose second album 'Surfing The Void' is set for release next month - admit their new-found sobriety has had a "massive" impact on the way they perform live.

Bassist Jamie Reynolds explained: "We're kind of stronger and we're sober - I think the sobriety thing's got a massive thing to do with it.

"We're actually figured out that we can play these songs and we're going on stage sober and playing them to their best, playing into the songs, where as before we were just a train wreck. Now we're playing as a strong unit."

The 'Golden Skans' hitmakers - who won the 2007 Mercury Prize for their debut album 'Myths of the Near Future' - also have a collection of songs which didn't make it onto the upcoming LP which are a departure in sound from their usual tracks.

Jamie continued to music website Gigwise: "I think we were making very slow, very dense and very beautiful music that we had no consideration to putting towards a Klaxons record - we were just exploring our craft and just exploring the fact that we were becoming songwriters.

"We weren't thinking about it in the sense of the second Klaxons record, we were just making weird music which we absolutely loved and are excited for people to hear."
